Australian Young Labor is the peak youth body within the ALP. It represents about 9500 members in every state and territory in Australia. Our National Executive meets regularly via phone hook up and our national conference meets once a year to elect the new leadership team for the coming year.

In between meetings we’re engaged in a series of campaigns to help advocate youth positions on a range of issues. Issues as diverse such as affordable housing or vocational training, an Australian Republic or the chronic under funding of our higher education system.

In each of our State associations we hold regular social events that provide young people an opportunity to meet some of the leading lights of the ALP at both State and Federal levels. These forums, dinners and drinks nights also provide members the opportunity to meet each other and discuss and develop many of the ideas in the media at the moment.

Now entering its thirty fifth year Young Labor has a proud tradition of helping train a generation of political leaders. Former Presidents of AYL have included former NSW Premier Bob Carr, Minister for Agriculture, Tony Burke, Special Minister of State John Faulkner, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities Bill Shorten as well as dozens of other MPs at both State and Federal level.
